Scottish Executive backs St Andrews Railway

If the modification is accepted then Proposal PT2, which begins, ‘Land for the following routes and facilities will be safeguarded from prejudicial development and identified in Local Plans, in accordance with the Local transport Strategy’ will read, at its fourteenth bullet-point, ‘The Leven and St Andrews lines including new Stations (subject to review through Local transport Strategy)’.
This gives the whole project credibility and helps ensure that the reconnection is not made more difficult by developments taking place on the alignment.
Cllr Liston welcomed the modification, which was suggested by the Fife Council Liberal Democrat Group, noting that the case would be further strengthened in three years time, with the news that the Open is to return to St Andrews in 2005.
