'St Andrews is next priority,' says SNP councillor

In an article in the Dunfermline Press concerning the possibility of a new Edinburgh-Perth line via Kinross, Cllr Alice McGarry (Inverkeithing & Dalgety Bay) agreed that such a service could alleviate parking problems in Inverkeithing. ‘But it’s not going to happen. We need to have an existing infrastructure – the first priority is the Borders rail link, and next is St Andrews.’

Cllr McGarry observed that there was already a service to Perth, adding, ‘areas that don’t have a rail link are desperate for one.’

Well said, Councillor McGarry.

The comments are particularly apposite, because on 25th September the North East Fife Area Committee of Fife Council is due to consider a report from the Transportation Service concerning the proposed St Andrews line. Also, just 6 days later on 1st October, TayPlan, the strategic planning authority for Tayside and North East Fife, will consider the ‘Big Ideas’ recently submitted as part of its non-statutory consultation, of which the St Andrews Railway is one.
