Letter in Courier asks for 'clear policy to reconnect'

The lead letter in today’s Courier fears that the grants from the Local Rail Development Fund are mere tokenism.

Ken Maclagan of Leven opines that the money is likely to only benefit transport consultants rather than lead to re-opened lines.

He has every right to be sceptical given the number of studies the Levenmouth proposal has gone through.

However, assuming the projects conclude that rail is the best solution to whatever is the identified problem - for St Andrews it is likely to be the large amount of traffic in and around the town and how best to persuade those travelling to the town to leave the car behind - it will be difficult to leave them hanging after raising expectations to such an extent. And the StARLink campaign will not let them off the hook.
