The St Andrews Citizen on 14th October 1967 reported how the Merchants’ Association emphasised the importance of the proposed closure. They noted, too, that it was difficult to formulate detailed complaints because objections to the closure had to be restricted to cases of hardship. They had therefore mentioned the hardship which would be caused by the loss of speedy passenger train goods deliveries, but also pointed out that the Merchants rely on the railway to a considerable extent for bringing shoppers to the town and also to enable them to make buying visits elsewhere. These objections were duly passed to the Town Council who submitted a composite objection.
