The St Andrews Partnership has called upon Fife Council and TayPlan to bring about an impartial evaluation of the proposal, ‘providing answers once and for all to a debate which has rumbled on for decades.’ They also pointed out that St Andrews is the most visited town of its size in Britain and one of the very few British university towns without a direct rail service, and note that ‘reducing the dependence on cars will reduce greenhouse gas and other harmful emissions, as well as improving the ambience and appearance of St Andrews, thus further enhancing its appeal.’
